How Mosalaki came to be
The Story Behind Mosalaki Phinisi
Mosalaki takes her name from the Lio language of Flores, where a mosalaki is the customary elder — the person a village trusts to make decisions that matter. We chose it deliberately. When twelve guests hand us three days of their lives in a national park two hours from the nearest hospital, trust is the entire product. Everything about this boat was built around earning it.
She is a 28-meter phinisi built the old way, with a hull of Sulawesi Ironwood shaped by Konjo boatbuilders whose families have been launching ships from the beaches of Bulukumba for generations. Ironwood is heavy, stubborn, and expensive, and there is no substitute for how it behaves in the swells between Padar and Rinca. Above the waterline we made different choices: five air-conditioned private cabins with proper bedding, en-suite bathrooms, a shaded dining deck, and a foredeck built for the hours you will spend doing nothing but watching islands slide past.
How We Actually Sail
Mosalaki runs Labuan Bajo to Komodo National Park year-round, on itineraries from a Full Day dash to a slow 6D5N expedition. Most guests book the 3D2N — enough time for Padar at sunrise, the dragons at Komodo, Pink Beach, and the mantas at Karang Makassar without a rushed minute in between. We sail her two ways: as a full private charter for families and groups who want the whole boat, and on selected departures as an open trip, where couples and solo travelers share the vessel cabin by cabin. Twelve guests is our ceiling. Five cabins, a crew of seven, and a ratio that means your coffee is poured before you ask for it.

What We Promise
No inflated dragon-guarantee marketing — sightings run near-certain in dry season, and our rangers know where to walk. Transparent pricing: park entry is IDR 650,000 per person, and we tell you before you book, not at the dock. A 50% deposit holds your date; the balance is due fourteen days out. And a crew that grew up on these islands, cooking food that tastes like Flores rather than a hotel buffet at anchor.
